Sustainability in Action
We take sustainability seriously here on the farm and one of the key areas we are passionate about is biodiversity. One of the main ways in which we promote biodiversity on the farm is through the enhancement of the bee population. Bees are released on a biweekly basis to pollinate our chilli plants, ensuring we are engaging in the most natural growing process possible. We even managed to catch one at work here.
Since the 1800s
The Taylor family have been farming at Chapel Farm, Lusk, Co. Dublin since the early 1800s. Originally a mixed farm compromising of various crops and animals we specialised over a half a century ago in producing vegetables for the consumer market.
We have now expanded and have embraced the new age of food and the benefits of sustainable food.
Bord Bia PERIscope research indicates that:
• Two thirds of Irish consumers consider buying local to be important to them
• 7 in 10 believe local food is of higher quality and a similar proportion like to know the provenance of their food
• They also have a greater degree of confidence in the safety of food produced in their local area
From seed to pack house, Alan takes delicate care of all the produce here at Taylor’s of Lusk. Alan is responsible for sourcing, planting, maintaining and harvesting our crops, ensuring consumers are provided with the finest Irish produce possible.
Once harvested Mark is charged with preparing the produce for distribution. Be it for the food service market or retail the batches are quality checked coming from the field and packaged and distributed to market.
Amy looks after all things marketing for Taylor’s of Lusk. You can catch her on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
Off the farm, Leona takes care of all accounting and administration for Taylor’s of Lusk.
