Bord Bia Sustainable Horticulture Assurance Scheme (SHAS). The Sustainable Horticulture Assurance Scheme (SHAS) is operated in accordance with ISO17065 and is built upon Bord Biaโs pre-existing Quality Assurance infrastructure, which has been in place for over twenty years. As members of the Bord Bia Sustainable Horticulture Assurance Scheme we meet a range of quality and sustainability goals to ensure we provide our customers with produce of the upmost quality. We hit targets in a number of different areas of the business to ensure we are operating in a sustainable manner.

Areas include:
โข Food Safety
โข Product Quality
โข Traceability
โข Environmental Protection
โข Staff Welfare
โข Biodiversity
โข Resource Efficiency
โข Social Sustainability

Sustainability in Action
We take sustainability seriously here on the farm and one of the key areas we are passionate about is biodiversity. One of the main ways in which we promote biodiversity on the farm is through the enhancement of the bee population. Bees are released on a biweekly basis to pollinate our chilli plants, ensuring we are engaging in the most natural growing process possible. We even managed to catch one at work here.
Our Heritage
Since the 1800s
The Taylor family have been farming at Chapel Farm, Lusk, Co. Dublin since the early 1800s. Originally a mixed farm compromising of various crops and animals we specialised over a half a century ago in producing vegetables for the consumer market.
We have now expanded and have embraced the new age of food and the benefits of sustainable food.
Bord Bia PERIscope research indicates that:
โข Two thirds of Irish consumers consider buying local to be important to them
โข 7 in 10 believe local food is of higher quality and a similar proportion like to know the provenance of their food
โข They also have a greater degree of confidence in the safety of food produced in their local area
